How To Find The Perfect Wedding Rings
When it comes to wedding planning, we tend to get carried away with finding gowns and choosing a venue. While these are top priorities for most couples, it’s important to devote time to other jobs on the seemingly never-ending list.
One of the most crucial tasks to cross off is finding your wedding rings. If you’re looking forward to going ring shopping, or you’re searching for inspiration, here’s a handy guide to help you choose the perfect band.
Your engagement ring
The first thing to think about when you start your search for wedding rings is your engagement ring.
You’ll be wearing your wedding band next to your engagement ring, so it’s important to consider the size and style of the ring and to try rings on together. Think about whether you want the metals to match, whether you want to incorporate the same stones into your wedding ring and how you’re going to fit the wedding band around your engagement ring.
If your ring is very large, or it’s an awkward shape, for example, you may need to design a wedding ring that merges into or fits around your engagement ring. With a 1 carat diamond, which is a very popular choice for engagement rings, you could choose a plain band or a wedding ring that is embellished with smaller diamonds.
If you have a sapphire, an emerald or a ruby, which also has diamonds, you might choose a diamond-encrusted band or opt for an understated plain silver, gold or white gold band. Try different styles and get ideas from expert jewelers.
It is also possible to custom design rings.
Wedding bands can be made from an array of different materials. The most popular options are yellow gold, white gold, silver and platinum. The metal used for your engagement ring may dictate the type of wedding ring you go for, but some people prefer to clash metals or to combine different metals.
If you’re unsure, it’s best to try different styles and see how they look on your finger. You might find that you prefer the aesthetic of one metal to another or that one shade suits your skin tone better. There is also a difference in price. Some metals are more expensive than others.
Size and shape
At first glance, it may seem like most wedding rings look the same, but on closer inspection, there are key differences in size, shape and aesthetic.
If you’re opting for a traditional gold band, for example, you’ll find that there’s a huge selection of band sizes available. From very fine, delicate rings to chunky styles, it’s beneficial to try rings on before you make a decision.
If you have small, dainty hands or your engagement ring is large, a smaller, narrower wedding band will work perfectly. If your engagement ring is small, or you have bigger hands, you may find that the wider bands look better.
Although many people choose traditional, understated wedding rings, there are ways to make your wedding bands unique.
Personalizing your rings is an excellent way to celebrate and remember a special day. Popular options include engraving your initials, a quote, a song lyric or your wedding date on the inside of the band.
